Other NotesCommon names: Kenya: Burkuke (Boran), Ethanatt (Turkana), Mumira (Kamba), Munga (Kiduruma), Muuga (Malakote), Sestat (Samburu). Species characteristics : A large riverine tree up to 25 m tall, with a rounded crown. It is split into two subspecies, subspecies elatior having glabrous young branches, leaves and pods and some spines inflated along their length (but not basally) and subspecies turkanae having pubescent pods, spreading hairs on young branches and no inflated spines. The typical subspecies is restricted to Kenya. This species is closely related and can be confused wit A. etbaica but differes in being a large tree with occassional pseudo-galls. Distribution : endemic to Kenya (Rift valley, Coast, Northern Frontier, Garissa, Eastern, Taita, Isiolo, Samburu, Meru, North-Eastern, Tana River).
