Species characteristics : Scandent shrub or climber to 30 m high, young branches dark brown to blackish, pubescent and with numerous scettered red-purple glands. Has scattered prickles like all climbing Acacias, and occurs in upland rainforest usually above a 1000 meters. Closely related to A. pentagona and A. kamerunensis, it differes in the dense hairs and glands that cover the young branches. It has thin dehiscent pods like A. kamerunensis, but wider and darker brown, unlike the indehiscent pods of A. pentagona. Compare differences in altitude and distribution between them.Recorded mostly in forest edges or gaps, on loamy soils. Distribution: Burundi (Muramvya, Bururi); Ethiopia (Kefa, Ilubabor); Kenya (Central, North Kavirondo); Malawi (Nkhotakota, Southern, Nkhata Bay, Nkata Bay, Northern); Rwanda (Shangugu, Cyangugu); Tanzania (Handeni, Lushoto, Mpwapwa, Morogoro); Uganda (Kigezi); Zaire (Forestier Central, Lacs Edouard et Kivu, Lac Albert, ); Zambia (Western, North western).
