Other NotesCommon names: Kenya: Kumung'ang'a (Lubukusu), Murangare Munene (Tharaka), Ongono Chuma (Luo); Sudan: Wonotith (Didinga). Species characteristics : Grows to a tree of 15 m tall with a flatish crown, with very distinctive flowers, having red or purplish petals and sepals and yellowish-white stamen filaments. This species is restricted to upland woodland and wooded grassland, and although widespread in east and north eastern Africa it is relatively rare. Distribution: Ethiopia (Harerge, Shewa, Gojam, Arsi, South, Omo); Kenya (Rift valley, North Kavirondo, Trans-Nzoia, Nakuru, South Kavirondo, S Ny, Nithi, South Nyanza, Uasin Gishu/Nandi, Bungoma, Siaya, ); Sudan (Equatoria, Al Istiw'a'iyah); Uganda (Mbale, Karamoja, Acholi, West Nile); Zaire (Lacs Edouard et Kivu); Ethiopia (Harerge, Shewa, Gojam, Arsi, South, Omo); Kenya (Rift valley, North Kavirondo, Trans-Nzoia, Nakuru, South Kavirondo, S Ny, Nithi, South Nyanza, Uasin Gishu/Nandi, Bungoma, Siaya); Sudan (Equatoria, Al Istiw'a'iyah); Uganda (Mbale, Karamoja, Acholi, West Nile); Zaire (Lacs Edouard et Kivu).
