1 pair pinnae each with 1 pair leaflets. Differs from P. dulce by having infl. glabrous; corolla 5-6mm long.

Notes
Small multi-stemmed, very branchy and thorny hedge tree to 3m ht. Outer bark plae grey, smooth, but with sharply defined horizontal hoops. Leaflet size very variable both on single shoots and amongst individuals, upper surface - tinged reddish around margin and midrib on exposed plants, slightly glossy, midrib assymetric and slightly prominent, lower surface - fine veins obscure, midrib reddish-yellow. Flowers: calyx and corolla pale cream-green, filaments cream fading reddish on some plants. Pods orange-red, spirally twisted, ripe dehisced pods with exposed shiny black seeds on bright red arils. Growing in garden hedge but also abundant scattered in surrounding dry coastal thickets and disturbed dry scrub woodland. (RHS colour code: Leaf upper =139A, below=138B)
