Species information
DescriptionTree to 30m developing buttresses; bark brown-grey; lvs 10-30cm long with 10-30 pairs well-spaced laterals; apex rounded to pointed, sometimes notched; fls 1-8 together in lf axils; corolla white, tube 4mm, 6 rounded lobes c. 4mm. Fruit 4-6cm long, 1-seeded; seed almost spherical 1.5-4cm long with scar down one side.
InterestPouteria - Latinised form of the Guiana vernacular name pourama-pouteri. The small yellow fruit is edible. Hunters are happy when they are in season, because the Mona monkey they hunt commune to feed in those trees and are then easy targets
