DescriptionYellow flowered small tree sometimes planted.
InterestThevetia - honour of Andre Thevet (1502-1592), French Monk who traveled in Brazil and Guiana. http://bodd.cf.ac.uk/BotDermFolder/BotDermA/APOC.html The milky juice of Thevetia peruviana is highly toxic on account of its cardiac glycoside content, and has been used as a vesicant (Watt & Breyer-Brandwijk 1962). Morton (1958) also records that Thevetia peruviana may cause dermatitis. The yellow oleander is dangerously poisonous and has resulted in many fatalities, especially on Oahu, Hawaii (Lewis & Elvin-Lewis 1977). Lewis WH and Elvin-Lewis MPF (1977) Medical Botany.
