Species information
DescriptionWeak shrub to 1.5m; 2 conspicuous, prominent glands on leaf stalk; blades lanceolate, 1.5-8cm long; corolla yellow, petals 1-2cm; fruit 6-10mm splitting, with many 2.5mm seeds each with white fleshy aril. T. subulata is similar but has cream petals with a dark spot at the base. A pantropical weed, possibly native but now a pantropicaql weed. Apparently the local name Politicia's flower refer to the opening of the flowers first thing in the morning and closing 2-4 hours later (Howard).
