Species information
DescriptionShrub or tree to 7m. Petioles 0-3.5cm. Leaves opposite, serrated. Blade 5-30cm long, serrated. Calyx 6-10mm. Corolla 1.5-2cm yellow. Berry 5-8mm red, in branched infls from axils.
InterestNamed after Basil Besler Basil Besler (1561-1629), a Nuremberg apothecary who was gardener to the Prince Bishop of Eicstatt. Besler, with the financial support of his patron produced two large volumes of 374 plates, illustrating more than one thousand flowers, arranged by seasons, with the plants shown whole and life size.
