Species information
DescriptionCrotons typically wither an orangeish colour. Orange watery exudate. Shrub to 3m. Lvs aromatic. Basal glands with short stalk, Cordate
InterestCroton is Greek word for 'tick', accroding to Keay,(1989) because the seeds of some species resemble ticks; the fact that some species are used to remove ticks from dogs is then coincidental. A leaf tea is good for coughs and colds, and a juice from the leaves is used to heal cuts. The sap is aromatic and can be made into a perfume (Honeychurch 1986)
