Common names: Ethiopia: Grare (Amharic), Lafto (Boran); Kenya: Sinnot (Pokot). Species characteristics : Single stemmed tree usually to around 5m but can reach 10m or more. This species has bright yellow flowers on an obovoid inflorescence, (intermediate between a capitate and spicate inflorescence), but which is more closely related to the capitate species in the subgenus Acacia (Hunde 1982). While scattered throughout the highlands of eastern Africa, it is nowhere very common, and is scattered in riverine woodland or on rocky slopes. Distribution: Ethiopia (Shewa, Sidamo, Gamo Gofa, Welo, Kefa, Arsi); Kenya (Turkana, West Pokot, West Suk); Sudan (Al Istiw'a'iyah); Uganda (Northern, Mbale, Karamoja).
