Gum eaten by man and baboons (Wickens et al. 1995).

Species characteristics : The species either develops into a small/ medium sized tree to 12 m growing on heavy often rocky soils in woodland scrub (subsp. robusta), or into a larger riverine tree up to 25 m. found commonly along river banks, drainage lines or margins of pans. Distribution: Botswana (South East, Kgatleng, Kanye, Gaberones); Mozambique (Gaza); South Africa (Transvaal, Natal, Cape, Zebediela, Nylstroom, Free); Swaziland (Lubombo, Shiselweni); Zimbabwe (Gweru, Bulawayo, Matobo, Chirumanzu, Bubi, Harare).
