Interest
kalos, beautiful and phyllon, leaf. The leaves were once used as a diuretic in Grenada, but it is said in Dominica to be posionous (Politi, 1996). Famouslt hard wood. Very long lasting hut construction.

Notes
Tree 20m tall with latex. BARK: vertical fissures, almost quilted. SLASH: thick, fibrous, apricot-pink, turning brown quickly. LEAVES: new leaves red; US midrib and secs slightly raised; LS secs slightly darker green. FRUIT: green, imm. (RHS colour code: Leaf upper =147A, below=146A)
