Species information
DescriptionShrub or tree to 15m. All parts covered in dense silvery scales. Petiole 5-40mm. Flowers fragrant; Petals c. 8 x 5mm, v. scaly on outisde; Fruits held erect, 2-12cm. Differs from other scaly Capparis as follows. 1a. Calyx lobes not joining in bud, 2-3mm long, not spreading in open flowers. Leaves thinner than leather, not shiny; Petals densely hairy outside. Fruits grooved between seeds, 4-26 cm x 0.6-1cm. C.indica 1b. Calyx lobes 4-12mm, joining together in bud, widely spreading in open flowers. Leaves leathery, and usually shiny on top. 2 2a Sepals 4-6mm; Stamens 0.5-0.8cm long; Fruits standing upright, densely scaly, 2-12 cm with 1-7 seeds, narrowed section at base v. short 0-2mm; C. odoratissima 2b. Sepals 7-12mm; Stamens 2.5-4.5cm long; Fruits drooping, with narrowed section 1-8cm C. cynophallophora
