Species information

Description
Small tree to 6m; lf blades 5-15cm x 2.5-7cm; hairs at least on nerves below; stipuls 2-5mm; young twigs with dark hairs; Flowers in clusters especially on older twigs, with 8 stamens; fruits ridged with 6 ridges, 6-10mm diam., splitting in 3 valves; seeds with orange aril.

Madey's Estate, approx. 1km SE of Sauteurs on the rd towards Grenville.

Notes
Medium-sized tree to 12m ht. Leaves: papery thickness, but slightly rubbery in texture; upper surface - midrib yellow, flat at base, prominent towards apex; lower surface - dotted translucent in lines. Flowers greenish with 5 tepals. Unripe fruits green, fleshy to half of radius with 3 carpels. Twigs strong and used for harpooning river fish. Covered in ants. Riverside.
