Notes
On the outskirts of the small town of San Pedro Tepanatepec close to the main road running ENE towards Tuxtla Gutierrez on the Pacific coastal plains. Medium-sized tree, branching heavily from 1m ht. with a dense rounded crown to 15m ht. Bark dark grey-brown, rough, thick, inner bark cream, turning orange-brown on exposure to the air. Leafy, casting dense shade, leaves recently flushed, glossy mid green. Flowers unscented, in large terminal panicles. Calyx pale green, petals pinkish purple, the banner with a white basal blotch, stamens and style creamy white, anthers white fading black. Infrequent, scattered in heavily degraded dry tropical forest in an area devoted to large scale mango plantations.
