Location
5km W of Jalapa de Marquez, close to the main road 39.5km NW of Tehuantepec towards Oaxaca.

Notes
Medium-sized tree to 16m ht. with heavy branches and a large open crown. Bark mid grey, smooth, becoming vertically fissured with age, inner bark cream. Leaves discolourous mid green slightly glossy above, paler below. In full bloom with a wide range of insect visitors including small bees, butterflies and ladybirds. Flowers very fragrant like "lilly of the Valley". Flower heads arranged on terminal branched pseudopanicales, the heads globose. Calyx and corolla pale green, stamen filaments and style creamy white, anthers lemon yellow. Common, especially along banks of seasonal watercourses in dry deciduous forest with Mimosa tenuiflora, Acacia farnesiana, Apoplanesia paniculata, Caesalpinia eriostachys and Lonchocarpus emarginatus.
