Notes
Small, multi-stemmed tree to 5m ht. Outer bark vertically striped pale tan and mid grey-brown. Slash thin, fibrous, thin green layer, then cream. Paired swollen reddish-brown thorns with ants. Fls on compact spikes, stamen filaments bright yellow, sweet smelling like Acacia farnesiana. Pods dehiscent along one suture revealing a sausage of pale yellow sweet treacle-flavoured pulp surrounding the seeds, suggesting bird dispersal. Abundant in secondary thorn scrub in c.5yr-old 'guamil' with Ipomoea wolcottiana, Piptadenia obliqua and Gliricidia sepium.
