Species information
DescriptionLow branched Tree to 7m, often with stem almost hori\ontal; Leaflets serrated nr apex. Flowers axillary,. Living fences and common in gardens. There is a purple and yellow fruited form.
InterestEasily roots from cuttings, and has edible fruits. In grenada the leaves are used to control insects, especially flies, in houses (Politi, 1996). The plant is also used like S.mombin.

NotesSmall, squat branchy tree to 4m ht and 40cm dbh with low, spreading branches. Outer bark smooth mid grey, vertically striped paler grey-brown with rough knobbly protruberences. Slash thick, soft, sl. fibrous, deep orange to reddish-brown, striped cream. Leafless. Unripe fruits bright glossy green.
