1km N Barra de la Cruz, nr sawmill on rd to main coastal highway.

Notes
Small to medium-sized tree to 10-12m ht. Outer bark smooth, mid metallic battleship grey, vertically striped pale orange-brown. Slash very soft, fibrous, salmon pink vertically striped cream. Leafless. Flowers very showy and distinctive, calyx with 3 large and 2 small lobes strongly tinged reddish, petals bright yellow, filaments yellow, darker orange at base, anthers yellow. Fruits more or less spherical, pendulous, green, strongly tinged maroon when unripe turning mid orange-brown when ripe and dehiscing to release seeds embedded in white cotton which are wind dispersed. Common in selva baja and secondary guamiles with Havardia, Coursetia, Lonchocarpus, Caesalpinia, and Thevetia.
