Location
2km E of Barra de la Cruz, on the rear of the beach.

Notes
Small, low-branched tree with a spreading open crown to 4m ht. Outer bark pale whitish-grey with darker greenish-grey vertical stripes. Slash thin, soft, with a thin green layer then cream. Swollen paired pale brown thorns on young shoots, with ants. Leaves shedding: large convex elliptic petiolar and rachis glands on young leaves, petiolules translucent from above. Flowers on compact dense, rather squat spikes, stamen filaments bright yellow. Unripe pods green, turning dark brown when ripe and dehiscing from the apex to reveal a sausage of pale whitish-green pulp in which the seeds are embedded. Locally common in dry thorn scrub at back of beach with Acacia farnesiana, Prosopis juliflora, Senna atomaria, Caesalpinia coccinea, Capparis odoratissima, Trichilia trifolia and Crataeva tapia.
