Location2km E of Barra de la Cruz, on the rear of the beach.
NotesSmall tree to 6m ht with a large round crown to ground level, the larger branches spreading and pendulous to ground level. Bole very fluted, multistemmed and intertwined. Outer bark dark grey-brown, very finely vertically wrinkled. Slash soft, chunky, fibrous, deep liver with a darker deep blackish maroon layer beneath inner bark. Leaves pinnate, leaflets alternate, plasticy paper texture, sl. glossy on upper surface, sl. glaucous on lower surface. Flowers small, cream-green tinged maroon on calyx lobes, densely clustered on axillary spikes on older woody shoots. Locally abundant in damper, dune slack hollows with deep black vertisol soils in very open selva baja with Coccoloba, Trichilia, Sideroxylon and Capparis.
