Locationrocky slopes above Laguna Mazcalco about 1km below main Salina Cruz - Pochutla highway.
NotesSmall, multi-stemmed tree to 10m ht. with a wide spreading crown, the stems spreading from the base. Outer bark shaggy, flaking in longitudinal pale whitish-grey strips to reveal smooth bronze, sl. shiny patches. Slash thin, very fibrous, pale pink. Twigs with conspicuously swollen nodes. Leaves mainly shedding and tree almost leafless; upper surface - midrib guttered, laterals impressed, all venation visible; lower surface - whitish, hairy, all venation visible and prominent. Flowers on short terminal spikes in fascicles on conspicuously swollen gnarled nodes, the spike rachis and flowers covered in white hairs, flowers cream, anthers yellow. Common, scattered in selva baja with Lysiloma divaricata, Lonchocarpus emarginatus, Piscidia, Myrospermum, Caesalpinia, Bursera, Jacaratia and Cochlospermum.
