Species information
InterestUsed for firewood in the Sahel. The timber properties include a yellow white sapwood with orange streaks, a reddish heartwood with black streaks, being heavy, hard and durable (1170 kg/m3) but easy to split. Because of its small sizes used in turning, carving and inlay work. Young shoots are palatable and readily browsed by livestock, and leaves are even eaten as a cooked vegetable in Malawi (Wickens et al. 1995).
