Species information
Interestused by Tswana herbalists in Botswana to treat coughs, tuberculosis, dry cough and chest pains (roots boiled in water and taken). Hedberg & Staugard (1989)
Other NotesCommon names: Angola: Mufuti (Cuamato); Zimbabwe: Vikani (Nd.), Sand acacia (English).. Species characteristics : Grows into an obconical shrub or small tree up to 9 m high, mult-stemmed from the base with spreading branches. Has slender feathery foliage. Occurs in drier mixed woodland and grassland particularly where there is sand (specific name refers to this habitat). It is often gregarious. Recorded use as browse. Distribution: Angola (Huila, Cunene); Botswana (Central, South East, Ngamiland, Ghanzi, South Eastern, Kgalagadi, Northern, South western); South Africa (Cape); Tanzania (Nzega, Kondoa, Mwanza, Singida, Mkolama); Zimbabwe (Hwange, Hurungwe, Nyamandhlovu, Bulawayo, Matobo, Bubi, Bulilima-Mangwe, Ngamo, Shangani); Namibia (Tsumeb, Grootfontein, Caprivi, Rehoboth, Kavango, Kaokoveld, Okavango, Caprivi Oos, Ovamboland).
