Common names: Wawara (Somali). Species characteristics: A small tree emerging up to 6 m high with slender whip-like stems, from a small basal shrub, or sometimes only a small shrub although I suspect this is due to age. With three prickles it belongs the Acacia senegal complex. Grows on rocky outcrops of limestone hills in sparse Acacia-Commiphora bushland. Variety hirtella is covered with short hairs on its branches and flowering parts, and is not recognised by the Flora of Somalia. Distribution: Ethiopia (Harerge); Somalia (Hiiraan, Mudug, Bari).
