Species information
Other NotesCommon names: South Africa: Moselaphala (Sotho). Species characteristics : Multistemmed shrub or slender tree to 5 m high, with young branches and pods covered with conspicuous reddish glands. Belongs to the group of glandular Acacias of the Limpopo basin, and has a fairly restricted distribution to south western Zimbabwe and western Transvaal. Occurs on stony gritty soils derived from basalt or granite. Occurs in woodland or grassland, and in Zimbabwe is found associated with mopane and Commiphora shrubs. Differs from other Acacias in the complex in having distinctive hairs on its young growth. Distribution: South Africa (Transvaal, Pietersburg); Zimbabwe (Gwanda, Beitbridge). Specimen total: 61 Degree squares: 11 Collection years: 1906-1989 Phenology: Flowering period: Jan(1), Feb(2), Mar(4), Apr(1), Nov(2), Dec(4); Fruiting period: Jan(1), Feb(1), Mar(6), Apr(5), May(1). Altitude range: 450- (800 - 1200) -1405m
