Description
Tree with opposite compound leaves, winged rachis, 5 leaflets, 2 thorns at leaf base.

Interest
Its Latin scientific name comes from the military pharmacist Parmentier, who was responsible for introducing the potato in France Medicinal, anti-diabteic and for chest complaints. "Turi" has been part of traditional medicine of indigenous Mexican communities since ancient times. The Aztecs used it for Renal Diseases, Dropsy, Gastric Indigestion, Colds, and Ear infections. They drank daily a tea made from 50 grams of Cuajilote Leaves in 1 Liter of Water. For Ear infections they soaked a Cotton ball in this mixture and inserted in the Ear.

Location
Tanteen area, the type locality for Lonchocarpus broadwayi, now sports grounds, buildings, hedges and polluted streams, but bordering onto ministry complex which used to be the botanic garden.

Notes
This species not regenerating like the previous, in fron of a fence c. 50m from botanic gardens; Many-stemmed tree from 1.5m height, c. 30cm DBH with different fruit to previous (<15cm green fts x 5cm wide, top-shaped) and rachis not winged. Twigs v. spiny. Cauliflorous, but some flowers also on young foliage. Corolla yellowish green.
