Species information
InterestIn the region of the Usambara mountains of northern Tanzania, from where the subspecific name usambarensis comes from, the local use strips of bark for making a strong string for tying together the framework of their houses, which can give off a powerful and unpleasent odour when collected or injured, giving origin to the common name "stink bark acacia" (Burtt 1942). Wickens et al. (1995) mention it has little value for fuel. Foliage and pods are sometimes eaten by livestock, young shoots, flowers and gum eaten by baboons, roots leaves and gum by monkeys, and bark by rhino.
