Species information
InterestAgave is the century plant. Name derived from Gk. agauos, admirable. Presumeably a reference to the plant in flower. Plant used for rope and fibre and for the manufacture of tequila and pulque in Mexico. Leaves used for making twine and rope; Used for skirts or false hair during Carnival Leaves are boiled to rid the chlorophyll; the rind is then removed and the white fiber is used to make the hair as part of the costume at carnival by a mass called wild Indian. The fiber can also be used to make mats.
