Species information

Description
Tree 20m, with some blunt spines on trunk. leaflets pale blue, glaucous below, obtuse at tip, c. 6-7 prs laterals. Largest orange petal curled round in open flower; other petals with yellow and maroon; calyx split on one side; pods 14-33cm long, densely hairy, 8-12 seeded, slightly constricted between seeds; . Seeds brown or black.

Interest
From the Indian Ocean islands to the Pacific Islands. According to Corner (1988) it has very thorny stems, with thorns on the leaflet underside. It has a preference for wet places and sombre purple flowers, often planted by water. E. glauca which also has oblong leaflets glaucous below has deep crimson flowers amd sparsely thorny twigs.

Location
In secondart vegetation, at mouth of St. John's river near bridge, sea and stadium.

Notes
Tree on riverbank. Few if any prickles on main bole, but a few on twigs. Slash fibrous, yellowish with a strong green bean smell. Flowers drooping, orange standard completely enclosing other whiter or redder petals. Leaves glaucous below. Margin wavy (in and out, not up and down).
