Publishing Online some features and samples
From BRAHMS, you can easily create and publish websites on your own server or host these elsewhere, selectively uploading data and images. BRAHMS online (BOL) is designed with curation and research in mind. Websites can vbe created for taxonomic groups, museum collections and herbaria, botanic gardens, seed banks and images - or any combination of these.
Key features
- Connect to BOL on the BRAHMS project server or install the entire BOL system on your own server with automatic system updates. Edit websites as well as upload and update your data directly from your desktop BRAHMS v7/8.
- Complete control over webpage design: The Bootstrap framework is included for responsive design creators and all CSS styling can be customised for each website project. Websites can make use of JavaScript including frameworks such as jQuery. Switch website publish status to 'hidden' while in development.
- Ability to link one to many databases to a single portal. Apply virtual themes to portals using taxonomic and/or geographic parameters.
- Publish taxa with full nomenclature details, descriptions, conservation status and other facts; collection events and herbarium specimens; botanic garden accessions and plants; seed bank accessions; survey plots and their data; herbarium transactions such as loans; and any category of image including specimens, plants, illustrations and paintings.
- Images can be linked to any uploaded data category. Image display in resizable thumbs, filtered to current query with options to display in Zoomify format or download with maximum resolution. Add your own copyright messages for images.
- Upload restrict options using restriction themes fine-tuned to the individual record level. Fuzzy data for protected taxa. Optional log in control to restrict access on data sensitive sites to registered members. Optionally disable all data downloads.
- Advanced data grids with tools to sort, filter, calculate and report data. Full administrative control over default column visibility and column order as well as column header text.
- Features to build and manage online queries. Fast search options can be added for any field. A wide range of searches can be constructed using URL parameters and, optionally, results can be returned as XML or JSON for integration into custom result displays.
- An extensive toolkit of mapping functions for collection points, survey plots and garden plants, configurable to select base maps, clustering, richness analysis parameters. Ability to register KML/KMZ files or URLs and selectively enable on your maps.
- The ability to design reports using Knockout templates linking to any uploaded data object.
- Dynamic links to JSTOR, The Plant List, IPNI and many other websites.
- Facilities to publish herbarium transactions online with images. Determinations can be added and returned as an Excel spreadsheet attached to an email message.
- Automated nightly backups with the last 7 days maintained on a backup cycle.
- Complete logging of site visits and query parameters used.
